Gmail Storage

Google Accounts will be given 15GB of free storage to share across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. If your Google Account is for work or school, you have at least 30GB of storage. It's great!

Check your storage

To see how much storage you're using:
  1. Go to drive.google.com or www.google.com/settings/storage.
  2. In the bottom left of Google Drive, hover over your storage usage to see the detail information, or hover over the chart at Storage Settings to see the details.

Buy a storage plan

If you're reaching your storage limit, you can buy more storage. Your upgraded plan will be your new total storage limit. For example, if you upgrade to 1TB, your storage limit is 1TB (not 1TB + 15GB of free storage).

Items that count toward your storage limit

  1. Gmail: All messages and attachments in your mail, including those in your Spam and Trash folders.
  2. Drive: Files up to 5 TB that you’ve stored in Drive, like PDFs, images, and videos. Anything you’ve made with Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides doesn’t count toward your storage limit.
  3. Google Photos: If you choose "Original" in your Google Photos upload settings, your photos will count towards your storage limit. Learn more about Google Photos storage sizes.

Items that don't count toward your storage limit

  1. Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, etc.
  2. Files shared with you.
